10 Basic & Professional Video Editing Tips You Must Learn

Editing a video just like a pro is not as easy as it is considered. Whether you’re a filmmaker or a blogger, video editing might seem the half of the battle for you. It requires a perfect amalgamation of technical knowledge and creativity.

Here are the most important tips you should know to make the professional video editing process much easier and more productive.

Pick the Right Software

Choose the right software for standard video edits. Look for the most popular tools known for the extreme quality of the digital interface, excellent features, and enhanced usability. Before making a final call, make sure it works well for your project and editing style.

Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro provide a complete Lite version for beginners. Some platform-specific apps are also available, but they are less robust, have limited functionality, and feature just a few file formats.

Save iMovie on Mac

If you are using a Mac and wonder how to save imovie, open the app and click the Projects tab to select your ongoing project. If your project is completed, click on the three dots and choose the Share Project option from the pop-up list. Select File to directly save a copy to your Mac computer. If you select the Theater option, it will save the project only to iMovie.

A pop-up will appear with several options to customize the saved video. Make the necessary changes and click the Add to Theater box if you want to see your project in the Theater tab. Simply enter a file name & location and click the Save option.

Choose the Right Computer

A fast and solid computer can make you a noteworthy video editor. Every individual has their perspective about the best computer for editing. But, there are certain considerable things for picking the right computer for video editing. Make sure your system has a fast storage drive to quickly access the footage and software. In comparison to traditional hard drives, SSD is worth considering.

If you’ve to do graphics-intensive work or grading, pick the right GPU. Consider the number of cores inside and the amount of memory in GB. Other important factors include increased RAM and a faster CPU.

Emphasize on Quality

Focus on the quality to impress viewers at first look. You can make your video crisp and more engaging using software that focuses on high-quality video production. Stabilize the shaky footage using plugins and tools.

Better describe the story, express emotions, and evoke responses through color correction or coding and appealing graphics. Remember that more editing doesn’t mean more quality. So, don’t overdo anything; just keep it essential.

Work on Music and Sound Effects

A perfect video is a combination of moving images and audio. Background music and sound effects create a significant impact on video quality. While creating relevant background music, make sure it matches the screen content and evokes viewers’ emotions.

It should be slightly quieter than the narration. Use speed ramping to balance the audio speed. You may browse the web to find tutorials on adding music and sound effects.

Maintain Backups

Save your time and effort in the long run by creating a backup of your video. If any of your digital devices unexpectedly crashes or your editing program gets some errors, you’ll have a backup to go back to.

Make at least three backups of your project, including one on SD, one on the hard drive, and another on a USB. You may also move your important project-related files to Cloud storage so that you can access them from anywhere.

Use Keyboard Shortcuts

It’s good to learn the use of keyboard shortcuts to save time on video editing projects. There are so many good keyboard shortcut resources. For example, Cheat Sheets, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro X, or DaVinci Resolve.

Learn Industry Terms

The video editing industry has some common terminologies that video composers, editors, or clients use to communicate. Hence, it is necessary to learn them. The basic ones include Cutting on Action, Jump Cuts, Match Cut/Match Action, L Cut, Cutaways, Montage, and J Cut.

Use Text in a Video

If you’ve composed an explainer or tutorial video, add some text comprising the key points of a video. While creating the script, highlight some attention-grabbing words or phrases and include them as text in the video to express your point.

Keep It Short

Most people nowadays love watching short videos. That’s a reason Instagram Reels and TikTok are trending a lot. So, try to compose a short, clear, and concise video. During the editing phase, remove anything extraneous, ensuring the video flows perfectly without it.

The Conclusion
