This is a good point, but I think in the end it is more likely that it is the visibility of women in technology that is the problem. Many women in technology companies have been told that they are not “passionate,” so perhaps they feel threatened by being seen as women who can’t really perform as hard as their male counterparts.
I think this is a very good point. Women in tech companies have been put in a position where they had to prove themselves, work harder, and be more visible before they would be hired. There is a risk that these women have been scared into staying in the male-dominated environment, and the end result is a lot less women in tech.
This is the first time I’ve heard this. I don’t know if my own experience is representative, but I’ve seen the reverse happen before.
This is not a new problem. In the mid-nineties a woman who was a software engineer in the early days of the company went on maternity leave. After three months, she returned to work and the company had to fire her after she failed to show up for her first day of work. This could be the same issue.
