For some cats, being vocal and rambunctious (especially meow, which is a pretty high-pitched “fuss”) will cause them to lose focus. And for some cats, being content is actually easier to maintain. For cats with a stronger self-awareness, it can be a challenge to keep them content. My cat is one of these cats.
The same can be said for meows. When meows are happy and content, they’re also a lot happier. When meows are happy and content, they like to meow, which not only makes them happier but also makes them easier to focus on. So meows are actually quite self-aware, even though they aren’t as vocal and rambunctious as cats.
I’d call meows more self-aware because they have the ability to recognize the presence of other meows and communicate with them. And I think that this ability is what actually makes them happy.

This is a very interesting study, and one that shows meows are generally more positive than negativity. So, although I’m not a fan of the study, I get a lot of enjoyment from seeing happy meows.
