This new season of Ozzy Animal Crossing: New Leaf has me re-thinking my “What do I want to eat?” question. I love the exploration and playfulness of the game, but I also love the fact that it has become just that—a game.
I am reminded of the first time I saw the Ozzy Animal Crossing trailer, when it was just a game and not a franchise. I was seven at the time, and I was instantly hooked. My brother and I spent hours playing, exploring, and fighting the cute, adorable, and goofy creatures. It was all fun and games… but then suddenly it was all games. Suddenly the game I thought I loved had been replaced by the game that was meant to replace it.
The original Animal Crossing was a game, but it was also a game about a game. It was a series of games that were about a series of games. It was a game that contained a whole lot of sequels, spin-offs, and game-play variations that came out over time. It was a game that started as a game, but it was soon followed by a series of game-based games, all of which are very different from one another.
