A new graduate of the Information Technology department at the University of Colorado is now the Vice Provost for Information Technology. The position is new to the department, and it is one of the first of its kind in the University.
The new VP of IT is Dan J. Cottrell, who previously was the IT dept. at the City of Colorado Springs. Cottrell has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Kansas, and a master’s in information technology from the University of Colorado. He will be in charge of IT at the university’s College of Engineering, where he will also work with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
The new VP is Dan J. Cottrell, and that means that he will be working on this project on a permanent basis, with a focus on learning information technology, technology-based information, and digital-to-digital-logical systems. Cottrell plans to also get involved in research in the field of computer information technology.
The guy who’s going to be the new IT VP is a bit of an odd fit for the job in our eyes. He’s the chief information officer, which is an IT position that is meant to be responsible for the IT system itself. Our IT department is a small one, consisting mainly of a couple of us, as we all work for a single company. But the VP is not a typical IT person, and we’ve noticed how he interacts with his department.
While the chief information officer is responsible for the IT systems, he also reports directly to the CIO (Chief Information Officer). In the most recent round of recruiting, we wanted someone who could take on the larger role of CIO, but also be able to report to the CIO. Of course, since we’re all employees of one company, we wouldn’t want anyone to think we were making the move to the CIO. So in the end we settled for this odd duck.
He doesnt even look like a typical IT guy. You can tell he likes to play video games, and he really does seem to enjoy talking to other people about his favorite games. He always seems to have fun, and is a great sounding board. He always seems to have something to say, and if you don’t know his name, you shouldnt be wasting your time.
In the end, after much thinking and research, we decided that his name was probably Nathan.
We are so glad we have him. He is a very engaging person who has a great sense of humor. He loves the outdoors, and he loves having video games with him. If that isn’t a good enough reason to consider a position as CIO, we don’t know what is.
So we came up with Nathan as CIO because he is a technophobe. He never has a moment to sit around and relax in his office, and he’s always up with the latest in gadgets and technology. Of course, given that he’s a technophobe, the position of CIO does come naturally to him.
Its great having Nathan CIO because he is our CIO. We cant have him miss a meeting or he wont show up. The only other office he has is his desk that he sits behind. He makes sure all his employees are taken care of. He is a very organized person, and we would all be lost without him.
